A garden doesn't have to have flowers While we go to see flowers at other gardens and that's good; there's something special about the WPA garden. Succulents and sand. Xeriscape. The new California! Find out more here about this different kind of park.

Saturday was date night and we went retro... for us. Crest Theatre did an old movie night with one of my favorites The Blues Brothers. They had screend Rebel without a Cause last weekend and are going to do Back to the Future next Saturday night with Indian Jones Temple of Doom and Pulp Fiction soon. Movie poster courtesy of Crest Theatre ![]() We were in attendance with almost a hundred people in the beautiful Crest Theatre enjoying our popcorn. The projectionist came out jake-a-fied but he knew he couldn't pull It off so he just dressed the part. As the lights went down there was a big hoot/holler/whistling as one guy showed up as one of the Blues Brothers and I think we all waited with baited breath that he would "see the light" and do backflips. Seeing Blues Brothers on the big screen was awesome. All the car crashes, the singing, the dancing on the huge screen at a high volume. All the hidden things in the frame I could not see on my small screen watching my dvd like the photos on the wall including Boobies!!!! The big surprise was an open parking spot within a block of K Street. It was like a velvet rope was opened for us that night. MMMM popcorn. Slightly Buttered.
So in the previous post I had mentioned we bought tickets to see an Elton John Tribute Show at Harris Center in Folsom. It was a fun night.
My wife is an Elton fan and had hoped to see someone who could hit the higher notes and perform like Elton John could before she was born. On stage certainly was a more youthful and spry Elton. It started of moderately rocking building some steam. My wife knows the lyrics and was enthralled from the very beginning. Me I was a little slow to warm up. He did a good job(although Tiny Dancer didn't go so hot) working it for the first half promising a quick break. When he came back he was on fire(not literally). He picked up the tempo and really got the crowd into it for the last 45 minutes. People were dancing and clapping as he tore into Crocodile rock, Saturday nights alright for fighting. There was a huge collective breath when he ended on a high note and was brought back for an encore of I guess that's why they call it the blues. I had a good time. The Elton fan had a great time and that's what mattered the most. Big props to Almost Elton John. I am the very model of a modern Major General......... Sacramento Theatre Company presented the Pirates of Penzance and the whole theatre got silly. A whimsical play of a sea faring pirate coming of age. Alcohol, sexual innuendo, swordplay. Check. Check. and Check. It was a fun evening for all in attendance including Gilbert & Sullivan and Queen Victoria. Even if they were just painted cut outs in the balcony overseeing the play. A couple of people showed up as a pirate to save a few $$$$. it was a good time and the actor portraying the pirate king certainly enjoyed his role. Possibly he is in real life?????
